How Old Was Your Baby Before You Gave Them A Pillow And Blanket To Sleep With?

My mom laid it down on my the other day when she found out my 20 month old just started sleeping with a blanket ( we of course keep it warm enough for him to not need one, but it is getting much colder here ) and still no pillow. I didn’t think a child should have a pillow until they were like 3 for some reason. When did your baby start sleeping with a pillow and a thick blanket?

Lucy’s had light blanket since birth, but she was always placed at the end of the cot (feet right down the bottom) and the blanket tucked firmly in so it could rise up above her head. And they were very light blankets. Probably around 15months I introduced a warmer, thick blanket because that’s when it started getting cold enough here. I was confident about her moving if there were any troubles and really, the only problem I had was that she’d kick it off.
I introduced a pillow about 2-3 months ago… just a little kiddy pillow. THe recommendations here for pillows are 2 years but she often sleeps in our bed in the early morning, and sleeps on a pillow just fine.
Now (well, in the last 2-3 months really), her cot just looks made up like a normal bed…. and thank goodness, she actually stays tucked in almost all night!… something I never expected to happen because she tossed and turned almost from birth haha

My son is 16 months now and doesn’t exactly have either. We have tried covering him up on nights when it feels chilly to us, but he will wake up and freak out and pull on the blanket until he is totally free of it. As far as pillow we still haven’t given him one to sleep with, but we did start letting him sleep with his favorite stuffed monkey when he was one and he tends to use it as a pillow and sleep on its tummy.

pillow sleeping is actualy bad for your neck, so the longer you wait the better..
it cold here, so my son sleeps in PJs and and a blanket, (he co-sleeps with us too) but he dosnt use a pillow..
he is just now wanting to cuddle my arm, under his head, BUT i think thats a comfort thing, as we are just now weaning him as im 27weeks PG and having nutrional issues…
when we move him out of our bed her in a mth, i wont give him a pillow but he will hav e a blanket

My son has always had a blanket. Ever since he was born he used one. Not a thick one, but a light one. He started using a pillow around 8 months. For some reason he wouldn’t sleep flat on his head. It’s the only way we could get him to sleep. I still always cover him because the doctor advised us too. I would worry about him not using a pillow personally. I have went with out a pillow before and my neck hurt so bad when I woke up. I wouldn’t want him going through that. Though I could understand where you are coming from if you are keeping him warm enough. I was scared about the pillow at first, but it turned out great for us.

My son is 21 months and he sleeps on the side of me. Im noticing at night he’ll wake up and move his head to share my pillow.. It seems safe and he seems to find it comfy so i let him. It was basically his choice
.
And the blanket thing… Well my son for some reason will wake up and kick off any blanket i put on him.. Its not a safety issue for us, i actually try to get him to sleep with a blanket but he hates them. Since its been getting cold ive just been dressing him warmer for bed time.

my kids were both pretty young, about a year old for my girl and nine months for my boy. some may think that is too young i don’t know the “standard” but by the time they where both 9 months old they where walking/running/climbing so i was pretty sure they could Escape a pillow.. they are 3 1/2 and almost 2 now and doin’ fine with their favorite pillows and blankets. but they will fight over them.. i should mention we all shared a one bedroom apartment at the time so i was always aware of them…

My son is 8 months old, and I started letting him have blankets and soft toys in his crib as soon as he could hold his head up well and roll over. He doesnt seem to have much interest pillows – I put one in his crib recently when he had a cold to help elevate his head and help him breath – he just rolled off of it and used it to prop his legs up! I would say go with your instincts…
